"For such a time as this..."
One of my new favorite movies to watch on Sundays is called “One Night with the King”. It’s a major motion picture made within the last few years about Esther. Though some of it is fictional, for the most part they did well in keeping the storyline and names of characters accurate. There are many stories and women throughout the scriptures that I truly admire. But Esther would have to be my favorite. Why you might ask? I have always admired her faith and courage. To think about her situation in more detail… imagine being placed in such a high position as Queen of Persia, and then to find out a decree has been sent out to kill all Jews, her people. Yet if she went un-summoned before the king to reveal who she really truly was (a Jew) and ask him to revoke the decree, she would be put to death. Yet, even with this knowledge, she knew that she was placed in this position for a purpose (“…for such a time as this…” Esther 4:14), and she had such faith in God that he would save her people. So with incredible courage, she went un-summoned before the king and revealed herself to him in order to save her people. I only hope that I can someday attain even a small amount of that kind of faith and courage that she portrayed.
